Nothing is worse than watching your dog scratch his ears (there are worse things but you get the idea). There are many products available out there to help ease your dog’s itchy ears, but which is the best? Whatever you decide to use to treat itchy ears is going to tell you the same thing; apply the drops liberally into the ears, massage the inner ear by folding your dog’s ear and massaging with gentle pressure (my dog loves this part!) Once your remove your hand, he is going to want to shake his head, so look out! Here are a few products to consider when shopping.

Corium-20: You should only be able to get this through a vet, but like many things that should only be purchased through a licensed professional, I found it online. It smells great too! If you know your dog has a ruptured eardrum, you do not want to use this. But being that you should only be getting this from a vet, he should know your dog’s health history or be checking his ears anyway.
Vet’s Best Ear Relief Wash: This is an all natural ear wash developed by a vet. It contains aloe, chamomile, tea tree oil and other natural ingredients for a soothing effect. A 16 oz. bottle will run you about $16 on Amazon.
Zymox Otic Enzymatic Solution Hydrocortisone Free: This is great for both acute and chronic ear inflammation. This one actually got a 4.5 star rating on amazon! Clearly most everyone seems to really like the results and how it clears up itchy ears. A 1.25 oz will cost you about $12 on Amazon.

EcoEars Dog Ear Infection Formula and Cleanser: This 8oz. bottle helps in the treatment of ear infections and aids in cleaning up gunky discharge, bad smelling ears, and constant scratching. They use a blend of natural and organic ingredients.
Dr. Harvey’s Herbal Dog and Cat Ear Wash: A 4oz. solution, this one has a base of Witch Hazel (which is what I have used on my dogs before). Do not pour directly into the ear canal, instead use a cotton ball and wipe all around the inner ear flap where dirt collects.
Ark Naturals Ears All Right Gentle Ear Cleaning Lotion: This is a lotion, different from all the products above. Because of that, there is no drying out the ears. It also helps to inhibit the growth of ear bacteria, fungi and virus.
I used to cringe when my poor dog would sit and scratch her ears. Cleaning out her ears with a solution and making sure there is no gunk in there (possible yeast infection indication), always made her (and me) feel better. Unfortunately, our dogs can’t talk and tell us what is bothering them, so we need to help them figure it out.
