Finding small hypoallergenic dogs that don't bark is kind of impossible. However, you can find small hypoallergenic breeds that don't bark much!

Here is a list of small, hypoallergenic dogs that will respond well to training for limited barking.

Small Hypoallergenic Dogs that Bark the Least

Coton De Tulear:

  • Some research you do will tell you that Havanese dogs are barkers, you will also find things written saying they are fairly quiet and just like to announce company.  Both are true.
  • You can work on training him not to bark if you find his barking is too much for you.
  • Mainly he likes to announce when company is coming, and when playing.

Chinese Crested:

  • The Chinese Crested breed is also good with other animals, so if you have dogs or cats already, he will do just fine.

  • He is hairless, unless you choose the powderpuff, then he requires some grooming.

Bichon Frise:

  • A great little family dog, he is sturdier than you think in his little body.
  • The Bichon Frise Dog loves to snuggle, whether it’s with you on the couch or on a bunch of pillows, he is a fairly mellow dog.
  • While is not much of a barker, he is prone to separation anxiety, in which barking can be a result.
  • You can train him to learn to be alone.  Although if you are going to be gone for long periods of time on a regular basis, he might not be the best choice for you.
  • His beautiful white coat does require grooming, but he does not shed like you might think!
  • A great addition to any family, even if you already have other dogs or cats.


The truth is, dogs bark, some more than others, but they all like to be somewhat of a watchdog for their family.  It’s a role they feel comfortable in.

With proper training, you can minimize how much your dog barks if you find that his barking is too much and unnecessary.
