Pitbull puppy training tips is back, and today I’ll be discussing when to begin training your pit.

The answer to that question is this: immediately.

It’s never too early to begin training your pup.

Training doesn’t always mean teaching “sit” and “stay”.

It’s never too early to start training any puppy. In my article, Pitbull Puppy Training Tips – Touch, Crate, and Rewards Training I went over several aspects of training that make life much easier. You can begin all of these as soon as you bring your puppy home. None of them require specific commands, because at this age, you really just want to get your puppy used to certain things.

Touch

As I said in my other article, it’s very important to get your puppy used to being touched on all areas of its body. The easiest way to do this is to begin rubbing and petting all parts of your puppy from the earliest age possible. As soon as you get your puppy, you should begin the process of getting it used to being touched on its stomach, ears, paws, and rear. This is one of the easiest of all of my pitbull puppy training tips to accomplish. If you start at a very young age, it’s really just a matter of petting your pooch everywhere.

Crate Training

Again, it’s never too early to start this, because it doesn’t require a specific command. This is another on of the easiest pitbull puppy training tips to follow and accomplish. Get an appropriately sized crate for your pooch and fill it with blankets and toys. Make it cozy and fun. When your pooch is getting tuckered out, gently place him in the crate and pet him until he falls asleep. He’ll quickly associate the crate with good things.

Rewards Training

Another super easy one to start early on is rewards training. Get your puppy used to the idea that if they do something you like, they get a treat. For example, always keep treats on hand when you take your pup out to go potty or when you’re putting it in its crate. Almost all dogs love treats, so this is a really, really easy one.

It’s Never too Early to Implement My Pitbull Puppy Training Tips

The first couple of weeks with a new puppy is a get to know you time, so you can limit the training to touch, crate, reward, and potty training. This way, it’s all fun in those first crucial weeks of bonding. All of the pitbull puppy training tips I laid out here are things that can be done in the course of a regular day’s interaction. After a week or two, when your puppy is well and truly bonded with the family, you can move into things like leash walking and “sit” and “stay”.

It’s really never to early to start training a puppy. You just have to be smart about it. If you have any other questions on my pitbull puppy training tips series, please feel free to ask them. I love answering questions!
