Hi there! I’m Nicole, the editor-in-chief and one of the writers here at DogVills. I’ve been a dog owner for most of my adult life and a dog lover for much longer than that. I grew up with a wonderful German Shepherd named Jake, who I loved SO much that I named my son after him. When I’m not writing for DogVills or my own site, Pretty Opinionated, I love spending time with my teenager (when he actually lets me) and my Pharaoh Hound, Freya. I’m also an avid reader AND a total TV fanatic.

Massive List of the Best Japanese Dog Names Ever

I was really excited to make this list because I actually lived in Japan for two years! It was a long time ago (back in 1999-2001), but I still miss it every day. There are SO many beautiful Japanese names for both male and female dogs that I had a hard time narrowing them all down to a somewhat manageable list.

Honestly, I could have come up with 1,000 more! But I didn’t want to overwhelm you, so I stuck with 100 each for boys and girls, then a few ideas inspired by Japanese cities, towns, and natural features (like mountains…there are SO many gorgeous peaks there).

Any of these names would be perfect for an Akita or Shiba Inu! Of course, you don’t have to have a Japanese dog breed to use one.

Let’s begin, starting with the girls, shall we?
