Hypoallergenic dog food brands are a dime a dozen these days, so it pays to do your homework. I’ve put together a hypoallergenic dog food ratings list of brands that consistently get high reviews from consumers for efficacy and taste.

Natural Balance

Natural Balance has a wide variety of hypoallergenic options using a several different protein sources. They have everything from duck and potato to fish and sweet potato formulas. This brand gets 4.5 to 5 star ratings consistently across various websites.

Holistic Select

Holistic Select is a company specializing in grain free food. Their selections of hypoallergenic dog food include varieties such as Anchovy, Sardine & Salmon Meal, Lamb Meal, Chicken Meal, Turkey, and more. All of their varieties are grain free, and they get 4.5 to 5 star ratings across the board.

Wellness Select

Wellness Select is a brand of hypoallergenic dog food that does it to the hilt. Every variety is free of meat by-products, GMOs, wheat, gluten, corn, dairy, eggs, and artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives. This is another hypoallergenic dog food line that consistently gets high marks.

Hills Prescription Diets

Hills is a company with a big presence in the prescription hypoallergenic dog food market. The Hills line was the top choice at the vet where I worked. They carry a wide variety of prescription hypoallergenic dog food, and they get 4.5 to 5 stars pretty much everywhere you check.

Purina HA

Purina HA is another prescription hypoallergenic dog food. This dog food has a hydrolized low-allergy protein source for easy digestion and a single low-allergy carbohydrate source. It consistently gets high marks no matter where you look.

When it comes to hypoallergenic dog food ratings, these brands are the top of the heap. There are other highly rated hypoallergenic dog foods out there, but they didn’t make the list. That’s because the majority of them were grain free but still contained chicken, one of the protein sources routinely found in regular dog foods. One thing to note is that although Holistic Select does use chicken in some formulations, the majority are free of it.

Hypoallergenic dog foods are everywhere these days. So make sure to do your homework, talk to your vet, and really look at those reviews. While the vast majority of reviewers are owners, that doesn’t make the reviews inconsequential. Many times, owner reviews of hypoallergenic dog foods are the best. They’re the real world last word.

Do you have any questions about these foods or hypoallergenic dog food ratings in general? I’d love to field them.
