Best Hypoallergenic Dogs For Kids

Bichon Frise: These friendly and playful dogs don’t shed and are great with kids.  They do tend to have separation anxiety when left alone for long periods of time.  Because of their small size, they do well for those that live in apartments, just be aware they do have a lot of energy, so be sure you are able to exercise him regularly.  If you are thinking about a Bichon for your family, keep in mind that grooming is a must, due to their fluffy coats.  Overall, this is a great choice for a family dog!

Fox Terrier: He won’t grow to be more than 15-20 pounds, so he will be easy to cart around, yet hearty enough for your kids to tumble around with.  These are natural explorer dogs, so it is suggested to not leave him out without a leash or in an unfenced area.  That being said, they are very intelligent and do well with obedience training.  He is a good watchdog!  He will let you know when someone is approaching with his high pitched bark.  Unless you are going to train your Fox Terrier to be around cats or other non-canine animals, it is not recommended.  However, if you are taking in a puppy and he will grow up knowing his non-canine counterpart, he will be fine.

Irish Water Spaniel: A fun fact about this kid-friendly canine is he has webbed feet.  Yes, webbed feet!  They help him swim and swimming is something he loves to do.  He sports an irresistible curly coat that will need to be groomed 2-3 times a week to prevent mats.  Think of it as good bonding time!  He is often mistaken for a Poodle but he is not.  You can trust that when he barks, you should pay attention.  He is typically quiet by nature but will sound his alarm when he feels he needs to warn his family.

Poodle: Another water loving dog, there is a reason for the funny hair cuts you see sometimes.  Their long hair would get caught on stuff in the water, so their bodies were trimmed short, while the hair around their joints was kept longer, helping to keep them warm in frigid waters.  Poodles love to be with their families and can develop separation anxiety when left alone for long periods of time.  Training is a must with these dogs, but luckily they are smart and love to learn.
You have many choices when it comes to choosing the best hypoallergenic dogs for kids.  When dogs grow up with kids, everyone is a little bit happier, especially if there are allergies and you thought you couldn’t own one because of them.
