When you’re picking out a bed for your rottie, you’ll need to consider the overall dimensions as well as weight limits.

Female rottweilers weigh between 80-100 lbs and stand about inches high. Length wise, they average between 28-29″, according to the AKC.

Male rotties can get much heavier, weighing between 95-135 and standing 24-27″ high.

Most manufacturers recommend an XL or even an XXL bed for rotties.

Should it be orthopedic?

Rotties, like all larger breeds, are prone to hip and other joint problems.

So, you can never go wrong with choosing an orthopedic dog bed.

You don’t have to get the most expensive and supportive one for a younger rottie, but I’d definitely consider splurging for an older dog.

What other factors to consider?

If you’ve read any of my posts about dog beds for large breeds, then you already knew I’d mention Big Barker!

It really is among my top 5 all-time favorite beds, especially since it’s made JUST for large breeds.

Let’s take a look at the basic features, then we’ll go over the pros and cons.

Features

• Calibrated just for large breeds.
• Comes in 3 sizes- L, XL, and Giant (XXL). XL is recommended for Rotties.
• 4 color choices.
• 7″ of therapeutic memory foam that’s made in the US
• 10 year warranty that guarantees the foam will keep 90% of it’s shape.
• Soft microfiber cover that’s machine-washable.

Pro & Cons

As far as pros go, I love how supportive the Big Barker is. Remember, the foam is made for large breeds!

The entire bed and all its components are made in the US, a major pro for a lot of dog owners.

Con-wise, you have to understand that this is in no way a waterproof, dig-proof, or chew-proof bed.

Recommendation 

I’d recommend this one for older rotties who no longer feel the need to chew everything in sight.

It’s expensive, yes, but not the priciest on this list. For a high-quality dog bed, the price is about average.

Big Barker recommends the XL for Rotties, but if you have a smaller female, you may be able to get away with the L.

2. Kuranda Chew-Proof Bed

My top pick for rotties and a top 3 pick across the board for all breeds, the Kuranda is literally everything you could want in a dog bed.

Pro & Cons

The pros far outweigh the cons, in my opinion. The Kuranda is as close to indestructible as you can get (although nothing is 100%).

Plus, it’s supportive and a breeze to clean. Just hose it off!

Aside from the short warranty, assembly ranks #1 when it comes to user complaints.

One customer noted something that I never considered, though- the bed’s surface collects water.

So, if you leave it outside in the rain, it will be a puddly mess.

We have a similar bed. Freya loves to nap on it on cool summer nights on our deck.

We just tip it upright when she comes in for the night.

Recommendation 

I recommend this one for all rottweilers, young and old!

It’s an excellent choice for both indoors and outside.

Don’t let the low price tag fool you, this is a highly rated bed for a reason!

Pro & Cons

The Furhaven dog bed has a super soft and cozy cover that you can remove and toss in the washer.

The bolster style is great for dogs who love to sleep on the sofa or rest their heads on a pillow.

On the downside, though, it’s not the strongest best. It won’t hold up to chewing, incontinence, or even digging.

Plus, the listing is SUPER confusing. Furhaven pretty much put all of their beds into one listing.

Some of the styles are just egg-crate foam. Others have gel foam. Some colors come in only some sizes, styles, colors, etc.

Bottom line, you have to read very closely to make sure you’re getting the bed you want.

Recommendation 

While I love the affordability of the Furhaven, even a low price can’t make it worthwhile for dogs who chew.

So, I’d recommend it for older rotties who are past chewing, but not quite at the stage where they need top of the line support.

Basically, a young adult rottweiler.

4.  Bully Beds Orthopedic Memory Foam Dog Bed

Bully Beds has risen through the ranks to become one of my top 5 favorite dog beds for large breeds.

It was actually designed as a Cane Corso dog bed, so it’s definitely rottie-friendly!

• Made specifically for large dogs
• 4.5 lb medical-grade orthopedic memory foam 
• 7″ thick, with two types of foam
• Removable, washable microfiber cover with heavy-duty zipper and non-slip bottom
• Comes with a waterproof liner
• Bolster on one end

Pro & Cons

On the pro side, there are a lot of great things about this bed!

It comes with a waterproof liner (Big Barker makes you pay extra for one), which is great for incontinent dogs.

The cover is soft and machine-washable, and all the foam is Certi-PUR (which means it’s skin-safe).

The only major con, it’s not chew-proof. However, you can buy a tougher cover for it. Downside? It’s pricey.

Some customers do complain that it takes a while to fluff up, but you’ll have that with all memory foam.

The other con that needs explaining is the warranty. While it’s super long (20 years), it only applies once the bed flattens by 2″ or more.

That’s nearly 30% of loft loss. By comparison, Big Barker’s kicks in when the bed flattens by 10%.

Recommendation 

As long as you don’t need a chew-proof bed, Bully Beds is a great choice. The support is almost unparalleled, making it perfect for senior rottweilers.

It’s a bit cheaper than the Big Barker, too!

The Pet Support Systems bed is one we haven’t talked about before, but definitely worth checking out!

• 5 sizes (go with XXL, or maybe XL for a smaller rottie)
• Certi-Pur eco-friendly foam
• Stays the same temp in both hot and cold temps.

Pro & Cons

Price-wise, this one is cheaper than the Big Barker or Bully Bed, but more expensive than the Furhaven.

The foam is only 4.5″ thick, so it’s not the most supportive orthopedic bed.

However, it’s designed for dogs with allergies, making it a good option for rotties with skin problems.

A few customers complain that the cover is both slippery and a total pain to remove.

Overall, though, most users rave about the bed!

Recommendation 

It’s a good mid-priced option for young adult rottweilers who don’t chew or wet the bed.

While you may be able to get away with just the XL, based on reviews I think you’re better off sticking with the XXL.

Pro & Cons

The Purple bed may not be as thick as other memory foam mattresses for dogs, but they make up for that by using high-tech materials.

Basically, they tend to hold their shape better, so you don’t have quite so much sag.

One major issue, though, is the fact that while the description states “waterproof cover,” customer reviews contradict that.

It repels water, yes, but if your dog has an accident and you don’t see it until the next morning, it will leak through.

Also, while Purple offers a 100-day trial through their website, they don’t extend that to Amazon customers.

Recommendation 

The large measures 50.5 x 38.5, and it’s the biggest size they offer. So, if you have a bigger rottie, this may not be the best choice.

It’s also not a good option for chewers and diggers. I do like it for senior dogs, though!

Pros & Cons

While it’s not as supportive as other beds on this list, it’s actually pretty decent for a crate mattress.

Customers love that the cover stays soft even after washing and holds its shape pretty well over time.

It is a bit pricey for a crate mat, yes, but it’s also a major step up from flat mats.

Recommendation 

While it’s not a very supportive bed overall, it’s definitely more supportive than a flat crate mat.

I wouldn’t get it as my dog’s “all the time” bed, but it’s a great option for non-chewers when they’re in their kennel.

Pro & Cons

While the Fala has a 4.7-star rating across 400+ reviews, there is one major complaint worth nothing.

It comes rolled up and takes time to “puff” up. Even then, some customers complain that it doesn’t hold its shape.

On the plus side, though, it’s made with hypoallergenic materials and has a super soft cover.

Plus, you can remove that cover and machine-wash it. However, it may be a challenge to put back on (speaking from experience with similar items).

Recommendation 

While it’s far from my favorite bed on this list, I wanted to find you something other than standard rectangles.

If your dog likes to sleep curled up and doesn’t chew, it’s a good option.

It’s not really supportive enough for seniors with arthritis or hip problems, though.

Pro & Cons

With 7″ of premium CertiPUR-US memory foam and a super soft quilted cover, it’s easy to see why this one gets such high ratings.

While it comes with a water-resistant liner, keep in mind that “resistant” is not the same as “proof.”

The biggest drawback to me is the lack of warranty. It’s covered by a 30-day return policy, but that appears to be about it.

Again, it is made in China, so if that’s an issue for you, you’ll want to skip it.

Recommendation 

As with most of the orthopedic beds we’ve looked at, I’d recommend this one for older dogs who- you know what I’m going to say – don’t chew.

It’s currently on sale on Wayfair for 34% off, but I don’t know how long that lasts.

If you can get it while it’s on sale, I definitely recommend it. At full price, though, I’d stick with Bully Beds instead.

10.  Luxury Dog Memory Foam Sofa

This last one is perfect for dogs who love sleeping on the sofa.

With 4.6 stars across around 85 reviews, it’s not the highest-rated but still a contender for the best dog beds for rottweilers.

• 2 sizes (you’ll want the XL)
• Memory foam cushion
• Designer fabric with rear zipper
• Microsuede cover

Pros & Cons

The removable & washable cover is a major pro, especially since it means that you can replace the foam yourself if need be.

On the other hand, the bolsters aren’t exactly as tough as I’d like them to be. They’re stitched at the sides, rather than one continuous piece.

Snoozer does have a great reputation overall, so even though it’s pricey, it’s worth it.

Recommendation 

Once again, I need to remind you that this is best for dogs who won’t shred it to pieces, especially given the price!

However, if you have a pretty mellow rottie and really want to give him his own sofa so you can get yours back, it’s a good option.

Final Recommendation

Obviously, they’re all among the best dog beds for rottweilers, otherwise I wouldn’t write about them.

That said, while the Kuranda is #1, Big Barker & Bully Beds tie for a very close second.

On the more affordable end of the spectrum, the FurHaven is my top budget pick.
