Hi there! I’m Nicole, the editor-in-chief and one of the writers here at DogVills. I’ve been a dog owner for most of my adult life and a dog lover for much longer than that. I grew up with a wonderful German Shepherd named Jake, who I loved SO much that I named my son after him. When I’m not writing for DogVills or my own site, Pretty Opinionated, I love spending time with my teenager (when he actually lets me) and my Pharaoh Hound, Freya. I’m also an avid reader AND a total TV fanatic.

Well, it is official…Vincent has been named the most beautiful bulldog. Vincent the bulldog was crowned the winner on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at the 37th Annual Beautiful Bulldog Contest, held at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. The contest is the opening event for the Drake Relays, a prestigious track and field meet held at Drake Stadium.

Meet the Most Beautiful Bulldog

The Beautiful Bulldog Contest started in 1979 and provides the winners in various categories top honors, complete with cape and crown. This year, the event drew in 1,400 spectators along with more than 500 viewers who watched the live stream online and provided awards such as Drake Spirit, Best Dressed, Porterhouse People’s Choice and Most Beautiful Bulldog to deserving bulldogs.

Vincent is a 60-pound brown and white English bulldog. It is not certain how old Vincent is because he was adopted in February from the Illinois English Bulldog Rescue. His owners, Chad and Meredith Green from Des Moines, Iowa, believe that he is about three years old. According to the rescue’s Facebook page, Vincent was adopted by the Green’s on February 3, 2016. Vincent was found over the summer of 2015, just walking around Des Moines, Iowa, with no place to call his home.

Vincent was one of 44 English bulldogs from all over the United States competing for the top honor for Most Beautiful Bulldog. At the event, Kurt Van Auken, who was a guest judge, said about Vincent, “He had the look, the wrinkles, the nose, the happiness. His tongue was always wagging. It was pure joy looking at him.” The cool thing about Vincent is that this is the very first time that he has competed in the contest.

There were two runners-up of the contest: Meatball and Daffodil. These two serve as alternatives in the event that Vincent cannot fulfill his duties as Most Beautiful Bulldog.

The Illinois English Bulldog Rescue was founded in 2009, with the goal of finding forever homes for purebred English bulldogs. They rescue abandoned dogs from the street, shelters and puppy mills.
