What is the cutest thing that dogs do? Wow, that’s a tough one! Let’s face it – we love our dogs! We’re the people who pull out our phones to show the latest pic of our fur-babies the way proud parents show off little Joey’s first steps. Our dogs are our “kids”, even if we also have human ones.
An estimated 32% of all Canadian households own a dog, while approximately 37-47% of all US households do. There are many reasons 1 in 3 households has a dog, and one of those is that they are just so darn cute. - Empathy. When we are sick or sad, our dogs know it. Empathy isn’t only reserved for their humans, though. Ryan C’s dog, Lyla, worries that her squeaky toys are in pain. One day she got a little over-zealous and caused her tennis ball to squeak; she dropped it, horrified, picked it up, took it to her crate, and began “licking it back to health.”
- Appreciation of the finer things in life. Most of us aren’t fooled into thinking our dogs stay off the furniture while we’re away at work, and why would they? The hard, cold kitchen floor, or the soft, comfy bed – which would you choose? Lana, Nicole H’s dog, not only makes herself comfortable on the bed, she also places her head on the pillow like she owns the place. This is a usual occurrence with my own dog, Gracie, as well. And when they look so cute, how can you say no?
- Loyalty. Pet dogs are often fiercely protective of their humans, but sometimes they are also loyal to others you might not expect. Cathy K. had a dog named Cooper who took his role of protector seriously for his “sister” – a cat named Jenny. An English setter was visiting, and he would not leave Jenny alone. Cooper quietly inserted his 105-pound body between the other dog and Jenny to ward off the confrontation.

- Playing well in the sandbox. The origin of the domestic dog is such that we don’t expect them to play well with other animals. But when taught to do so, some incredible relationships can form. Keith T. has many different types of animals and raises his dogs from the beginning to care for the other animals. The result of this training is an unbelievable respect and love among the animals. - Making fast friends. As pack animals, dogs crave companionship, and they will find it where they can. Like Gobi, there is a dog in India, Kani, who joins long-distance runners in Mumbai for their races. He is blind in one eye, but that doesn’t stop him. He’s well-loved, and runners know that he is happy to have food, water, or a quick pat.
- Snuggling. What’s cuter than a snuggly puppy? A puppy whose snuggle-buddy is a baby. Blogger mom Jessica Shyba’s new puppy, Theo, quickly took to cuddling with her son, Beau, during his naptime, and what happened was the creation of an inseparable friendship.
