Bridesmaids & Puppies: So Much Cuter than Flowers!
On Saturday, September 10th, 2016, the wedding of Matt Crain and Sarah Mallouk took place at the beautiful Moonstone Manor, a historic stone mansion in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. But this wedding was not your ordinary wedding. Instead of holding flower bouquets during their photo sessions, the bride along with her five bridesmaids cuddled with a rescue puppy instead.
Sarah, a 2005 college graduate of Penn State University in State College, Pennsylvania, has been on the Board of Directors for Pitties. Love. Peace since it was founded in 2011. PLP is a non-profit dog rescue and rehabilitation organization for pit bulls and pit bull mixes. She and Matt are huge dog lovers, owning three rescue dogs of their own. Also, when Matt proposed to Sarah, he did so while the couple was on a leisurely walk with their three dogs. And if that just wasn’t enough, the couple featured an image of their three dogs on the front of their wedding invitations.
The photographer for the wedding was Caroline Logan, a wedding photographer and owner of Caroline Logan Photography. Logan was thrilled when Sarah and Matt approached her about their plan of including puppies in their wedding photos. She said in an interview, “Having something to divert attention from that uncomfortable ‘Oh my goodness, I’m getting my picture taken… what do I do with my hands?!’ feeling to pure puppy bliss made for relaxed photos where the bridal party was able to focus on interacting with the fun-loving puppies as I documented it all unfold.”The bridesmaids also loved the idea of including the puppies. Caroline Phillips, one of Sarah’s bridesmaids, stated that “We didn’t know this would go viral. Sarah wanted to get some recognition for the rescue and to help get these puppies and other dogs adopted. She wanted to do it to spread awareness. We didn’t know it would get this big. We’re all very grateful for it.”

Sarah held Biggie Smalls, a 9-week old Pitbull puppy. Her five bridesmaids each held a Boxer-Coonhound puppy that were 8-weeks old. The five puppies were all sisters, derived from the same litter. Each of the dogs were named after a former First Lady of the United States: Abigail (Fillmore and John Adams), Dolley (Madison), Elizabeth (Monroe), Louisa (John Quincy Adams) and Martha (Washington).
While Matt and Sarah were on their honeymoon in Mexico, the photos of their big day went viral and even caught the attention of The Dodo, Buzzfeed and The Huffington Post. In fact, the photos were posted on the HuffPost Weddings Facebook page on the evening of September 19, 2016 and to date, the post has 1,429 likes, 471 comments and 494 shares. That is in just less than three days.
