The best lazy dogs for your apartment are not always the smallest. Apartment living can be rough on some breeds because there is typically no yard for them to run around in and most likely some stairs or elevator you have to go down to get outside. Every dog needs to go out, but there are some lazy breeds that you might want to consider. Some that would rather keep your couch warm than run a marathon with you.

Best Lazy Dogs for Your Apartment
Basset Hound: This guy even looks lazy, with his droopy eyes and ears. He will be happy with a walk, every dog needs to walk, but he is not going to want to go on runs, jogs or hikes very often. He makes a great family pet as he is patient and easygoing. His demeanor makes him super kid friendly and dog-friendly. It can be tempting to want to give him lots of treats. Be sure to watch his weight, he is prone to weight gain, but if he gains too much not only is it unhealthy, but it can hurt his back.
French Bulldog: A friend of mine is a new proud owner of a cute little French Bulldog, and her photos are the definition of lazy. She is always photographed laying around, in the sun, on and under blankets. She is super cute, and perfect for him and his apartment. Her small size doesn’t take up too much room when she is walking around, you know, to get a drink and some food and back to her cozy spot.

Bullmastiff: He may seem like a giant and too big for you apartment but the Bullmastiff doesn’t take up much space! A friend of mine has one, and he is the laziest large dog I have seen. He is big and goofy. Tonka (like the truck) barks when you knock or enter the house, but then he lays at your feet. He is a huge teddy bear in that way. The kids love to curl up with him, and he loves it. He slobbers, though. More than once he has shaken his head near me, and I ended up with dog drool everywhere. Not cool Tonka, not cool.
Chihuahua: I can attest to the laziness of my Lola. She does not care to chase after squirrels or play an endless round of ball or tug. She is happiest curled up in your lap or at least somewhere near you (or the sun, she likes to lay in the sun). She is the perfect dog for my family; my daughter gets to dress her up, and Lola just lets her. We take her for walks, and she runs in the backyard, but her happy place is curled up with one of her family members.
Greyhound: I love the Greyhound! You might think he has a ton of energy because he just happens to be the fasted breed around, but he would rather take up some space on your couch. He would enjoy walks and even some running from time to time. He is perfect for apartment living, so don’t overlook him just because of his size, he will love cuddling in close quarters with you.

Just because they are big does not mean they have a ton of energy that needs to be run out daily.
