If you’ve been following my Pitbull Puppy Training Tips series at all, you know that most of these pieces have a common core: Love, patience, and consistency. The best way to train any puppy – Pit or otherwise – is to approach it in that manner.

More Flies with Honey…

The best way to train a Pit, or any pup, is with kindness, love, patience, and consistency. Both you and your pooch need these things in order to properly implement all the Pitbull puppy training tips I’ve been handing out for the past few weeks.

Kids and dogs are remarkably similar. They respond best to positive reinforcement, treats, and praise. So essentially, dealing with a puppy is like dealing with a toddler. If you keep that in mind, training shouldn’t be nearly as frustrating for you. =D

Be Kind

One of the biggest of my Pitbull puppy training tips. You want your puppy to be eager to do what you’re asking because it loves you, not because if fears you. Training methods that involve hitting, choke collars, and an overbearing approach to dominance DO NOT work. They may make your dog do what you want, but they certainly won’t make it a pooch full of life and joy.

Rewind

Be Kind. Rewind. See what I did there? Seriously, though. That’s a big part of puppy training. Approach them with love and kindness and repeat, repeat, repeat. It takes puppies a while to understand what you’re asking them to do. So you’ll need to rewind to the beginning of the command training even after they successfully do what you’re asking.

Be Consistent

Consistency is so important. It’s another brick in the foundation of my Pitbull puppy training tips. You must be consistent when training. Every time you rewind, the playback should be exactly the same as the first time you started teaching the command.

The Best Way is the Kind Way

If you want to get the most out of my Pitbull puppy training tips and the most out of your dog, always be kind to your dog. Kindness, consistency, patience, and, of course, treats are all you really need to train up your Pit – or any pup – the right way the first time.
