Top Dog-Friendly Ice Cream and Treat Places

Most of these dog friendly restaurants with treats are either drive-thru stops or serve customers outdoors as well as inside.

Keep in mind that those that have both indoor and outdoor service may only allow dogs in the outside section.

That said, the follow is a list of wonderful treat places that have secret menu (or sometimes, not so secret) items for dogs!

Let’s check out a quick list, then keep reading for more details.

  1. Starbucks
  2. Tim Hortons
  3. Sonic
  4. In ‘n Out
  5. Johnny Rockets
  6. Dairy Queen
  7. Shake Shack
  8. Culvers
  9. Dunkin Donuts
  10. Chick-fil-A

1. Starbucks

Starbucks is probably the most popular dog-friendly treat place! Grab a latte for yourself and a “Puppuccino” for your pup!

It’s basically a cup of whipped cream (Fido doesn’t need coffee, he has plenty of natural energy, after all), but it’s still a super cute secret menu item.

Just don’t give it to dogs with dairy allergies (obviously, right?).

Since you can’t walk half a block in any town without running into a Starbucks, you should have no problem finding one!

2. Tim Hortons

Canada’s most delicious coffee place also has a tasty treat for your pup!

Next time you’re there grabbing yourself a box of Timbits donuts, get a sugar-free version for your dog.

Although there are locations in the United States, I’m not lucky enough to live near one unless I want to drive over an hour away.

Still, I’ve had their bagged coffee and it’s very yummy! Find a location near you.

3.  Sonic

My son is a huge fan of Sonic, and I’m addicted to their Happy Hour specials (Diet Lime Cherry for me, please!).

While they don’t technically have a secret menu item for dogs, if you tell them your pup is along for the ride they’ll often bring out a tasty treat.

4. In ‘n Out

In ‘N Out burger joint is probably one of the most dog-friendly places with secret treats.

While you’re enjoying your burger, your dog can dine on a tasty “Pup Patty.”

It’s basically a plain hamburger patty, but your dog doesn’t need all the bells and whistles!

Find an In ‘N Out near you.

5. Johnny Rockets

I’ve only been to a Johnny Rockets once, but rumor has it they’re adding a location near me. Yay!

As long as you’re sitting outside, your dog is welcome. They’ll also bring out a cut-up burger for your pup to enjoy while you eat.

Bonus: some locations in California have an entire secret menu for dogs!

6. Dairy Queen

One of my favorite ice-cream places also has a secret menu item for pups!

It’s called the Pup Cup, and it comes with a little soft-serve vanilla ice-cream with a dog treat on top.

Now, before you say, “ice cream isn’t really good for dogs!” keep in mind that I’m not recommending getting it for her every day!

A little treat here and there (and as long as she doesn’t have dairy allergies) won’t hurt her…unless your vet says otherwise, of course.

Locate a Dairy Queen near you.

7. Shake Shack

I’ve never been to a Shake Shack, but wow, the name alone makes me wish we had one near me!

Shake Shack is one of the few places on this list that created a whole custom dessert just for dogs.

Along with tasty burgers and shakes for you, your pup can enjoy a  Pooch-ini! It’s made of dog biscuits, peanut butter sauce, and vanilla custard.

Find a Shake Shack near you.

8. Culver’s

Another dog-friendly ice-cream place that I’ve never had a chance to visit (because there aren’t any near me), Culver’s has a secret menu item for doggies, too.

Dogs are welcome in their outdoor seating area, and they’ll even bring Fido a free small scoop of vanilla custard!

Find a Culver’s near you.

9. Dunkin Donuts

Another one of my favorite coffee places (I’m that rare person who loves both Starbucks and DD equally) that may hand out treats to your pup.

Most customers say that they keep dog treats behind the drive-thru counter, but some have even gotten little pup lattes (whipped cream in a cup).

Like Starbucks, you can’t really go two feet in my town without running into a Dunkin Donuts, but check their store locator for locations near you.

10. Chick-fil-A

Some Chick-Fil-A restaurants will hand out a tasty treat to your pet if they see them when you go through the drive-thru.

Your mileage may vary with this one, but it appears that they do it more often than not.

Typically, it’s a Milk Bone treat from a box stashed under their counter, but again, yours may offer a little something extra.

Tips for Finding Other Pet-Friendly Treat Places Near You

While these are the most popular nationwide (more or less) dog friendly restaurants with treats, don’t rule out smaller establishments near you!

Here are some tips for finding pet-friendly treat places in your home town.

1. Head to local outdoor ice-cream stands

While local ice cream stands seem to be folding by the second in my town, we still have a few left standing.

All of them allow dogs in the outdoor seating area (which is all they have, so that makes them 100% dog-friendly in my book).

These establishments are typically family-run businesses, so chances are the owners have their own pups at home!

When you place your order, ask if they have a secret dog menu. Even if they don’t, they may just give Fido a tasty morsel anyway.

2. Always opt for outdoor seating

As you plan your family outing, look for locations that offer outdoor seating as well as indoor options.

In many case,  if a restaurant has outdoor seating, they’ll allow you to bring your dog along.

Just make sure you keep him on his leash and close to your own table. A bad-mannered dog can easily ruin it for the rest of us!

3. Call ahead and ask

If you’re going to be traveling with your dog, plan ahead so that you have a solid list of dining establishments that will allow him to come along.

Not only will you feel more comfortable bringing your dog than leaving him in the hotel, but most hotels don’t even allow you to leave them unattended.

Bring Fido has a good list of places that allow dogs to dine with you.

Of course, you can always make your own tasty frozen dog treat and bring it along with you when you dine out so Fido doesn’t feel excluded!
