First, let’s talk about what to look for in the best large orthopedic dog bed. Then, I’ll give you some tips on where to find great beds at an affordable price!

1. Invest In Quality
I can’t express enough how differences in quality can change how your pet feels. An inexpensive poorly made bed is not going to last, nor will it offer the comfort and support they need.
An investment in quality will be a benefit to their health, and your pocketbook in the long run.
If you’re on the fence about buying a more expensive bed, consider this: many of the pricier beds come with guarantees. Some even offer 10-year warranties.
Basically, if it comes down to spending $30 every few months on a cheap bed and $300 just one time on a bed that lasts 10 years, it’s easy to see why that’s the better option.

2. Make Sure It Is Large Enough
Not all large dog beds are created equal…literally.
One company’s large may be another’s medium and yet another’s extra large, so you can’t go by the word alone. You’ll need to look at the actual dimensions.
First, though, you need to measure your dog!
Start by measuring your dog’s length from nose to tail, then add an extra foot to that for maximum comfort.
Dogs especially like to move around and create a comfy spot in their bed. If it is too small, they are less likely to settle and relax.
If it’s way too big, though, they won’t get that secure feeling that a cozier bed provides.

3. Memory Foam Is Best
There are multiple types of large dog beds out there, but for orthopedic purposes choosing a memory foam bed is ideal.
Not only does it retain the pets shape and form to them, they tend to last longer than other options.
A large orthopedic dog bed in memory foam will have better health benefits to your dog.
Check out the video below with the different types of memory foam so you can choose the best option for your dog.
Personally, I prefer the open-cell memory foam because it keeps my dog from getting too hot.
4. Odor-resistant and easy to clean
When I’m choosing a new bed for my dogs, I look for something that can resist odors and is easy to clean.
This was especially important when I had a senior dog that was prone to accidents.
Ideally, you’ll want a bed that has some sort of cover that doesn’t allow urine or other fluids to seep into the foam itself.
5. Removable Covers Are A Bonus
This is just an added bonus that is always a plus in dog bedding.
If you find one with an easy to remove cover, you can then add a plastic liner under it to cover the bed itself making it waterproof so accidents are cleaned easier.
Just remove the cover, wash and put back on the bed.
