Spring Games for Dogs

Frisbee:

This classic is one of my favorite spring games for dogs.  After a long winter of being stuck indoors or going outside to brave the cold, a nice game of frisbee will be welcomed, by both of you!

Pull out the old disc, hop in the car and take your dog to a park.  Or just head out to the backyard, whichever you prefer.  He (and you) will enjoy the fresh Spring air.

Jog:

I know, I did a facepalm myself when I thought of this but really, this will do you both some good.  You are not going to full on sprint.

Get the blood moving and the oxygen flowing for both of you.  It might turn into a run if he has his way!

Lace up your sneakers and head outdoors!  Don’t forget your water (and some for him as well).

Water fun:

On those really warm spring days, break out the water hose and let him chase the water.  You can do double duty and water your grass at the same time.

This is also a great opportunity to give your dog a bath!  Just be sure it’s a warm Spring day, we don’t want any sick pups.

Fetch:

Balls, sticks, favorite toy, whatever you can toss, he will bring it back.  Check our favorite outdoor toys your dog will love.

You probably played a few games of this during the cold and bitter winter months, but moving it outside again will breathe new life into this game.

You will no doubt tire of this game before he will!

Take a break, grab some water and start tossing again!  Just think of the truly tired dog you will have cuddled up next to you when the sun goes down.

Hiking:

So you are not a hiker you say?

There are so many great places you can hike and there is never one too far away from you, no matter where you live.  Here are 29 Dog-Friendly Hiking Trails in the U.S

Get creative!  Dogs like challenges, both mental and physical, and above all just like spending time with you.

So pack up enough water for both of you and head out to explore something new!

Anything you can do to get outside again after the tundra melts and the temperature increases is a good thing for both of you!

Be aware you (and your dog) might get a little muddy, but it’s the price you pay for taking advantage of warmer Spring temps while Winter is on its way out.
